UBC Missions Team’s Annual Retreat

UBC Missions Team Annual Retreat

Retreat: a period of group withdrawal for prayer, meditation, study.

The UBC Missions Team is inviting you to retreat from the daily hustle and bustle and come join us on Saturday November 5, 2011 to hear how God is using His people to make His glory known around the world. We will pray for local serving, short term missions and our missionaries. We will meditate on Acts:1:8 and Matt 28. We will study, through hearing about what God is doing here and abroad.

The day:  Sign in begins at 8 a.m. followed by Worship at 8:30

With your group (and a passport) you will travel to 3 ‘destinations’ : Africa, Appalachia, and Arizona, to hear the trip reports from 2011 short term mission trips. The 4th stop is a tour of UBC Local Outreaches, did you know there are serving opportunities from Union Bridge to Westminster, to Baltimore and Appalachia? The Missions Team takes a Serve Local, Go Global approach to world missions believing that sharing Christ begins at home, our communities and reaching the nations.

Pastor Steve will serve children of attendees grades 1-5 with a children’s missions program.

After everyone has completed their missions tour everyone will gather back in the multi-purpose room for closing statements, then lunch will be served.

It’s all FREE! Sign up at the kiosk on Sunday!

The title of this year’s Retreat is: Passport to Missions-Where is God Sending You?

Kenya and Arizona Teams Arrived Home Safe…Forever Changed…

…and full of testimonies of God’s provision throughout their missions. Were the missions fulfilled? Yes. These teams accomplished what they set out to do…and God did so much more.  Stay tuned…

Who will go to them?  Who will finish the task?

If you wanted a Bible in North America how difficult would it be?  If you really wanted one and couldn’t afford it, somebody somewhere, at any church in any city in the US, would go out of their way to make sure you had one.  You could always pick one up from your next hotel stay.  Bible societies would send you one if you wrote and asked for it.  Most of us have lost more Bibles than most of the world has handled in their lifetime!  In many places, people still don’t have access to the scripture in their language.

Snippets from the Mission Fields…

From the AZ team:

Denise: 4/5 Left 6:30 am yesterday, arrived in Sells AZ 10 pm AZ time. We were quite weary but very happy. Encountered so many wonderful people in our travels…God definitely paved the way! Today our first day of VBS went great! Love them al! Tomorrow day 2 of VBS. They all are excited to come back! Can’t wait! Thanks to all who are praying! And a special thanks for all the beautiful notes! Blessed me abundantly!

Dana: 4/5 We had the best day today planning and teaching the most beautiful children.  I wish I could bring them all home. They all played parts, learned their Bible verses and loved being loved on.  We were able to give each one of them a Bible and they were so appreciative. The children are so loving and open and willing to learn.  I loved every second we were together.  And……praise God… we get to do it again tomorrow.

Sheila: 4/6 We love, LOVE the Tohono O’odham children! What a blessing to be able to love on them and serve them. God has blessed us beyond measure, we are looking forward to what He has in store for us today!

From Kenya: Special deliveries of White Rain pump bottle hair spray, and plain M&M’s were happily received by other SIM missionary friends and 6 bottles Mt Dew to our favorite Kikuyu…it is the small things. :-) Also brought for the conference 4 Proclaimers for two of the language groups attending the conference. >>Faith Comes by Hearing

The team arrived safely at the conference. Approx 70 pastors in attendance. Occasional rain…much needed…a blessing that cannot hinder the teaching. The teaching is being well received. You can imagine how thrilled our missionary is to have a team from his ‘home church’ partnering with him on his mission to reach the unreached through national pastor discipleship. How GREAT is our God-

Jones’ in Ethiopia~Missions New Happenings and Updates…

Where are the updates from the Jone’s trip to Ethiopia? Well, we weren’t certain about how much internet access there would be.  Electricity is not a sure thing any given day. So, praise the Lord we got word they have arrived safely. Since then we are trusting that the planned retreat has happened and Jeff, Michele, Alex and Beth are now headed for a few days of camping with their hosts the Blackstens, then Sunday they will celebrate Easter in Addis. Imagine your family arriving in Addis, only knowing the host missionaries, one day later, heading out to a secluded area, praising God with 70 other missionaries who serve people in Africa (who do not have the Bible in their heart language), and being refreshed and renewed by the very Word of God-for four days…cut off from the rest of the world-well-from the technology world…pray for God’s will for the remainder of this journey, for quiet Bible times, self searching times, family relationship building, relationships with the missionaries, and their families…pray for what comes to your mind for the Balckstens, and the Jones family…

Be moved by the very Word of God…not emotion…not the next sensory overloading-emotional response provoking-event… all of the noise and technology stripped away…Christ is enough. Serve because Christ is the example, He is where you are and where He is calling you to serve… He is not invited there, He is waiting for you there…so GO-serve-hear the stories and testimonies first hand…share in the life of a UBC missionary-be changed because you put yourself out there…vulnerable, fully relying on God.

The Jones’ will share the testimonies of this journey at the UBC Missions Retreat, May 1-you are invited-

Ethiopia Bound~Jeff, Michele, Alex and Beth

Please be in prayer for Jeff and Michele Jones, Alex and Beth. One week from today-March 25, they will depart for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The purpose of this Uniontown Bible Church Short Term Mission is to spend time with UBC supported missionaries Doug and Kelly Blacksten. Jeff and Michele will participate as session leaders at the annual missionary retreat for SIL, encouraging Scripture memorization using The Message. The girls, Alex and Beth will assist with the childrens program.

Another exciting part of this trip is the visit to one of the local language groups. The Bench language people are part of the Faith Comes by Hearing (FCBH) program. The program was launched just over a year ago, and now there are approximately 500 “listening groups” who gather weekly to hear the Word of God in their heart language.

We know God has so much more in store for this family than the mere plans of man.  Please pray for final preparations and plans to come together, for the Blackstens and all the missionaries gathering for rest, relaxation and refreshment from the retreat.  Pray for safety, health and travel mercies.  To God be the Glory!

The Jones’ will share about this trip at Uniontown Bible Church’s Missions Retreat May 1, 2010-sign up at church on Sunday or contact Jay Bubel or Dennis Unglesbee.
